Start with slurry characteristics
Provide liquid chemistry, solid mineral, concentration by mass or volume, particle size distribution, velocity, pressure, temperature, cycles and expected cleaning method.
Cavity and solids trapping
Ask how the valve design prevents or manages trapped solids around seats, stem and ball cavities. The answer must come from the actual sectional drawing, not a generic “slurry valve” claim.
Ball and seat engineering
Discuss coating selection, surface hardness, seal loading, wear mechanisms and acceptance criteria with the manufacturer. Verify operation after solids exposure and possible settling.
Actuator sizing and flushing
Account for operating conditions that may increase torque. If flushing or purge features are proposed, specify supply, connections and operating sequence.
Frequently asked questions
Are metal seated ball valves always suitable for 50%+ solids slurry?
No. Suitability cannot be confirmed from solids percentage alone.
What drawing should I request?
A sectional drawing showing seat sealing arrangement, cavities and any solids-management details.
