Metal-to-metal seat design
Specify ball and seat base materials, hardfacing or coating, surface finishing and seat loading philosophy. A metal seat does not automatically guarantee zero leakage or universal slurry suitability.
Abrasive and high-temperature duty
For slurry, identify solid type, particle size, solids concentration, velocity, cycling frequency and risk of material accumulation. For elevated temperatures, confirm thermal expansion, differential pressure and required shutoff standard.
Coating and seat materials
Where applicable, a technical review may compare tungsten carbide, chromium carbide, Stellite-type hardfacing and other engineered surfaces. Final coating selection requires the service conditions and a verified manufacturer design.
Acceptance and testing
State requested leakage acceptance criteria, test procedure, body test and seat test conditions. Never infer a leakage class solely from “metal seated.”
Frequently asked questions
Is a metal seated valve always trunnion mounted?
No. Metal seated refers to sealing surfaces and can be combined with different constructions.
Can a metal seated valve handle slurry?
Suitability depends on the actual valve cavities, solids characteristics, flushing provisions, coatings and operating duty.
